Dear Friends in Christ,

When asked which commandment is the greatest, Jesus responds with profound simplicity: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind… and you shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:36–39). In these words, Christ reminds us that love of God and love of neighbor are inseparable, they are two expressions of the same faithful response.

At Catholic Charities of South Carolina, this Gospel call is at the heart of everything we do. Our service to the poor, the vulnerable, and the marginalized is not merely charitable work; it is an act of love. When we feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, and walk alongside those in crisis, we are living out our love for God by honoring the dignity of His beloved children.

Loving God with our whole being naturally moves us outward toward our neighbor, especially those who are most in need. Christ is present in the faces of those we serve, and each act of compassion becomes a tangible witness to the Gospel. Through service, we encounter God, and through faith, we are strengthened to serve more generously.

As we reflect on this Scripture theme, may we be renewed in our commitment to love without limits, to serve with humility, and to recognize Christ in every person we encounter. Together, rooted in faith and guided by love, we continue the mission of bringing hope, healing, and dignity to all.
