Hundreds of children in the Pee Dee go without gifts on Christmas. This year Catholic Charities of the Pee Dee Region made sure that would not be happening again this Christmas. On Saturday, December 19
th a Christmas Assistance event was held at the Myrtle Beach Education Center and 659 children will enjoy the 3,500 toys that were donated for this event.
During the event, parents went shopping in “Santa’s Workshop” and, with the help of a volunteer shopper, chose the toys their children will receive on Christmas morning. Every toy was wrapped for parents before they left and while mom and dad were shopping, children were checked into the “Reindeer Room” where they watched “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” made reindeer antlers, and played in many reindeer games.
Several area organizations combined to make this event a reality by donating the toys and granting the Christmas wishes of so many children. Catholic Charites of the Diocese of Charleston would like to extend a warm and grateful thank you to the following for their gift of joy: St. James Catholic Church, St. Andrew Catholic Church, St. Michael Catholic Church, Toys for Tots of Horry County and Coastal Carolina University.
