On September 29th, 2016 Catholic Charities Pee Dee (CCPD) partnered with Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, SC to hold a produce distribution. Produce distributions are a no cost, farmers market style event and are an essential part of CCPD’s Wellness Program outreach. At this particular event, CCPD was joined by the Lowcountry Food Bank who brought a cooking cart to demonstrate different ways to prepare some of the produce that was available at the event. There were 6,021 lbs of fresh produce, which included watermelons, zucchinis, apples and onions, provided to 234 individuals that evening.
These events allow CCPD to increase access to healthy foods by strategically setting up visits in areas where CCPD does not have a physical presence or where clients may have to travel many miles to have access to fresh produce and healthy options for themselves and their families. CCPD is looking forward to their final produce distribution of the year, which will be held in Williamsburg County at the end of October.
CCPD is always working to improve our programing and services to the outlining counties in our jurisdiction.
